Trans-scriptions: Cultural Codings and the Poetics of the Body Conference – University of Wrocław (11-13 February, 2026)

  • Paula García Rodríguez“Disposable Bodies in Trans-cription: the Transformation of the Ageing Female Body in Contemporary Horror Fiction”

Description of the activity.

This interdisciplinary conference aimed to interrogate the manifold ways bodies are produced, performed, and perceived through cultural, technological, medical, and political lenses.
Paula García Rodriguez analysed the ageing female body as a site of capitalist and patriarchal inscription in contemporary horror. The paper focused on Tracy Fahey’s They Shut Me Up (2023) and Coralie Fargeat’s The Substance (2024). The presentation explored how these bodies are framed as residual within systems that privilege productivity, reproductive capacity, and aesthetic value. However, through horror and corporeal metamorphosis, both texts transform these “wasted” women into monstrous figures that resist containment.
